At Fair Park I remember counting the number of fruitbats flying inland from Santubong (mangrove forest) direction. They are BIg--the windspan may be 5 feet long!
I was probably 8 or 9 then. In the evening about 6, I would lie on Gung Gung/pa's Colt's boot/trunk and felt very excited about the numerous batmen that I see. They would amount to the hundreds!! I heard that it must be the durian season or when the durian flowers are blooming.
The only place that I have seen a huge number of these bats recently is at Pulau Tioman last year when I was back in Singapore.
That leads to another memory of rare dish: Durian flower curry!
Ah Kong, do you still have that or rather does Ji Chim/ Er Shen Por still cook that dish??
Yes I eat/ate! durian......flower curry but NO, NOT DURIAN the stinky fruit.
I think that is the other rare dish that i remember, besides the Iban Brinjal Assam Curry which Kong mentioned not long ago in Multiply.
Last but not least, Happy Mother's Day to all mothers reading this.

Somehow, ji-chim (my mum) doesn't cook the durian flower dish anymore. Not too sure why. haha.
Other dish you should try when you come will be "yam shoot", coconut -shim (shoot) curry.
