10 random memories

From Jo Li:

1.
Shona and I antagonising a tree with a wasp's nest by running under it while shouting. I think we were on the way back to Huising from the church near Huising...

2.
The Christmas where uncle Swee kept making weird turkey noises and all the brothers wore underwear on their heads and over their jeans. The first generation of 'Heroes'...

3.
Jumping off the bedhead in one of the rooms in Huising, using a blanket as a parachute. We would hold the corners together (two in each hand) and jump off; we must have been pretty young because I remember we 'floated' a bit as we were coming down (I think now we're all too heavy).

4.
Those 'Veggie Tale' books with Colin the Cucumber, can't remember the others now.

5.
Auntie Anna's awesome pei tan zhok and also duck porridge (this was when I still ate meat) - the best in the world!

6.
Teaching Jon, Matt and Caleb how to play 'er ling wu' at that restaurant which served us roasted quail (and traumatised me in the process).

7.
Going to Wisma Serbekas - I don't know what was the big deal, but I remember we all got really excited when we went.

8.
Going Bako. Staying in the bungalow in the middle of the jungle and climbing the hill/mountain to get to the beach on the other side. (And Zoe having to go do a poo behind a big rock!) And those weird-looking fiddler crabs with one claw bigger than the other. And mudskippers. Oh, and playing hide-and-seek in the dark, putting pillows under blankets to trick the 'seeker' into thinking they were people. And the weird tea-coloured tap water.

9.
Playing T-ball on the driveway??? And cricket in the field behind Brampton Way, and then Waverley Way.

10.
Ah-mu and Kung-kung were over in Perth for a holiday, staying in Canning Vale. I was home a lot because didn't have many uni contact hours. Ah-mu and Kung-kung used to watch TV a lot, and drama serials. One day I went to see what they were watching in the TV room and Ah-mu started tsk-tsking at Kung-kung because he had fallen asleep. A few minutes later, Kung-kung woke up and started laughing at Ah-mu who'd fallen asleep herself! They are so funny together. Ah-mu would always pretend to scold Kung-kung for something and he would look at her from across the table and grin sheepishly, so that Ah-mu didn't know whether to laugh or be angry!

Jo, it's Larry the Cucumber lah...I know cos Yang's favourite is LarryBoy, Larry the cucumber's superhero character, with super suction ears that allow him to swing from building to building like spiderman, but with plungers instead of web....

I think it's a different book altogether? I remember the cucumber character didn't have super powers, it was sort of like a Mr. Men-type book, all the vegetables lived in a little town together.

I remember one of the visits from the Singapore clan. We went to Sibu Laut (?)and took a boat across the sea to a nice beach, then Joli stepped on a nest of red ants. She just stood there and yelled and cried out very loud.

Hey Joli, I remember the bako trip with the hide & seek @ nite. Remember it to be fun though can't remember what we actually did - too dark?! Incidentally, THAT was the nite that the famous song "Blue Moon" mutated into "Full Moon" as we played Jinrummy, & I think it was your dad who started the full moon singing & everyone got hooked till this day!
